160813-N-VQ947-064 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Aug. 13, 2016) Damage Controlman Fireman (SW) Julie Sesmas, from Menifee, California, and Damage Controlman Fireman Fabian Bustillo, from Boston, inspect portable exothermic cutting units (PECU) in the hangar bay of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The PECU allows a damage control fire team to fight fires indirectly by cutting holes in doors or hatches that are sealed shut from the heat. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
