USS MAKIN ISLAND, At Sea (November 8, 2016) – A Marine with Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, slides down a fast-rope during helicopter rope suspension technique (HRST) training conducted aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD 8), while afloat in the Pacific Ocean, Nov. 8, 2016. During the training, the Marines took the opportunity to exercise their proficiency in the fast-rope method of HRST by descending from the flight deck of the Makin Island via a stationary MV-22 Osprey, and executing a temporary lock-out, followed by a safe landing onto the hanger deck below. The 11th MEU, part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility in support security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
