BREMERTON, Washington (July 27, 2017) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) 3rd Class Theodore Welke prepares to enter a simulated casualty while wearing a "hot suit" in USS John C. Stennis’ (CVN 74) hangar bay during a general quarters drill. Responders use hot suits on the flight deck during an aircraft casualty to allow them to retrieve pilots from their aircraft. John C. Stennis is conducting a planned incremental availability (PIA) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, during which the ship is undergoing scheduled maintenance and upgrades.
