Capt. Michael Boelk, from North Branch, Minn., talks to his soldiers before they begin their mission from Camp Buehring, Kuwait on Oct. 27. Boelk, the troop commander, is on his second deployment. “For me, it all clicked when I saw that look in my soldiers eyes that said ‘We own this.’ I’d rather rope in creativity than have to ignite it. These guys come up with little improvements every mission. I couldn’t be prouder.” In their first 90 days, the 1st Squadron, 94th Cavalry "Iron Rangers," 1st Brigade, 34th Infantry Division "Red Bulls" provided nearly 700,000 miles of convoy security missions for the draw down from Iraq. The Iron Rangers average three times as many missions as their predecessors in support of Operation New Dawn.
