211119-N-EV253-1450 SAN DIEGO (Nov. 18, 2021) – Following the intense six-week training period known as Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Initiation season, in which senior enlisted leaders introduce Sailors selected for the rank of CPO to a myriad of challenges designed to strengthen their leadership and mentoring abilities, 28 selectees march in formation moments before receiving their Chief Petty Officer rank insignia and donning their Chief Petty Officer covers during a pinning ceremony hosted by the “Merlins” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 3 aboard Naval Air Station North Island. The selectees, assigned to tenant squadrons responsible to Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing, Pacific, represented their respective squadrons, including the “Merlins” of HSC-3, the “Black Knights” of HSC-4, the “Indians” of HSC-6, the “Eightballers” of HSC-8, “Golden Falcons” of HSC-12, “Chargers” of HSC-14, “Blackjacks” of HSC-21, “Wildcards” of HSC-23 and “Firehawks” of HSC-85.
