PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 1, 2022) – Lance Cpl. Alexander Deweerd, an aircrewman assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 362 (Reinforced), 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), breaks down discarded oil cans as part of proper hazardous material (HAZMAT) disposal aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Sept. 1. Disposal of HAZMAT is required to ensure the safety of personnel, aircraft and the environment. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P.
