PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 3, 2022) – Sailors replace a mechanical seal on an air conditioning unit aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Sept. 3. Replacing the mechanical seal prevents the oil loss that can result in structural damage equipment failure. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting integrated training operations with the 13th MEU in the U.S. 3rd Fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
