PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 3, 2022) – Quartermaster 3rd Class Amethyst Barnes prepares vegetables for the salad bar aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Sept. 3. The galley provides health-conscious food choices to Sailors, and Marines assigned to 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting integrated training operations with the 13th MEU in the U.S. 3rd Fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
