THULE AIR BASE, Greenland – A C-130 Hercules rests on the flight line at Thule Air Base, Greenland, Aug. 9, 2022, the Department of Defense’s northernmost installation. Located 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle, Thule’s 10,000-foot runway provides a vital lifeline for personnel and supplies to flow to and from the remote base. Air traffic controllers and contracting officer representatives from the 821st Support Squadron support more than 3,000 U.S. and international flights per year.
