    SAN DIEGO (Nov. 9, 2022) – Sailors heave line on the fantail of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) during a sea and anchor evolution, Nov. 9, 2022. Mooring lines are used to hold a ship fast to the pier against the effect of wind, current, or other forces. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P.
