PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 9, 2022) – Machinist’s Mate Fireman Joseph Njegovan, front, and Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) 3rd Class Derrell Brooks inspect incoming fuel during a replenishment-at-sea aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Nov. 9, 2022. Testing and inspection of fuel is necessary to prevent water and sediment from entering the ship’s turbine systems and causing a decrease in performance and degradation. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet with the embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Eloise A.
