PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 16, 2022) – Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) Fireman Kaylan West observes a lube oil storage conditioning assembly in the main machinery room aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Nov. 16, 2022. Conditioning assemblies are responsible for removing sediment from the synthetic lube oil, which is then transferred and used to cool and condition the ship’s engine system. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet with the embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
