PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 10, 2022) – U.S. Marine Corps Col. Samuel Meyer, commander, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), speaks to Marines and Sailors during a cake cutting ceremony in observance of the U.S. Marine Corps’ 247th birthday aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Nov. 10, 2022. The 13th MEU is the United States’ most forward-postured presence, operating aboard ships of the Makin Island amphibious ready group (ARG) in the Indo-Pacific region which enhances interoperability with partners and serve as ready-response force for any type of contingency. The Makin Island ARG, comprised of amphibious assault ship Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P.
