Upper Volta - 65% of the people in the Third World lack access to safe water. Open wells are invitation s to contamination and disease. AID is developing, promoting and funding low cost water systems to reach a larger proportion of low income people, particularly in rural areas. The system emphasize the use of local resources and maximum community participation. The agency has helped build many improved well systems that include proper covers.
