The United States through its Agency for International Development has made a massive effort to rush relief supplies to the devastated area of East Pakistan which was hit by the typhoon and tidal wave in mid-November. AID, along with other U.S. voluntary agencies, donated food, clothing, medicine, blankets, water purification tablets and personal hygiene kits. U.S. Aid-financed typhoon shelters, such as the one shown here, offered refuge to thousands of people during the typhoon and tidal wave. Between 800 and 1000 people were reported to have been in this shelter on that night. The helicopter in the foreground belongs to AID and was flown to East Pakistan from Nepal.
