Hato del Medio Housing Project: Total Cost $4.5 million of which $2.95 million was in AID Funds. Project includes 1036 units, basic and upgraded models. Other projects nearby (shot from watertowers) are also AID-funded; these are 2,300 units. AID built roads, sewers, infrastructure. These homes designed to serve people with incomes ranging from a high of $340 a year to a low of $177 a year. The people buy the basic core home, which consists of a brick bathroom, and adds on to it. Government builds the core and tenants build additions on to their own home as they can afford it. AID provides funds to Honduras National Housing Authority, which contracts the work to private builders. (Housing Guaranty Program). Photo by Barry Fitzgerald, 1985.
