ARABIAN GULF (Sept. 8, 2017) The Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Newcastle (FFG 06), left, prepares to get in formation behind the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) during a formation group sail with the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) and the French Navy air defense destroyer FS Jean Bart (D615) in the Arabian Gulf. Nimitz is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While in this region, the ship and its carrier strike group are conducting maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, preserve freedom of navigation, and maintain the free flow of commerce.
