An African-American Warrior adorns the Victory Monument on Chicago's Southside. The famous landmark was renovated through the World War I Centennial Commission's 100 Cities project. The monument honors the service of the Illinois Army National Guard's famed all African-American 8th Infantry Regiment, the only black unit to enter the "Great War" led completely by black officers. The model for this Warrior was 8th Infantry Regiment Sgt. Ozzie Levels.
