    USS WASP (LHD 1)

Chief Machinist's Mate Erik Johnson, assigned to Assault Craft Unit Four, while attached aboard USS WASP (LHD 1) gives a presentation to students of Greenlawn Terrace Middle School in the well deck of Wasp during a ship tour. Wasp is in New Orleans April 17-23 for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration Navy Week. Overall, there will be about 3,000 sailors and Marines, nine ships and about three dozen aircraft in attendance. Visiting ships are from the United States, France, Canada, Great Britain, Ecuador and Indonesia. The commemoration is a salute to all sailors and Marines who fought gallantly in that conflict, who have served in our nations' conflicts since then and who are defending freedom around the world today.
