Sailors from the HMCS St. John's stand at the ready to welcome aboard visiting officers from the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) during a reception April 19. Wasp is in New Orleans April 17-23 for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration Navy Week. Overall, there will be about 3,000 sailors and Marines, nine ships and about three dozen aircraft in attendance. Visiting ships are from the United States, France, Canada, Great Britain, Ecuador and Indonesia. The commemoration is a salute to all sailors and Marines who fought gallantly in that conflict, who have served in our nations' conflicts since then, and who are defending freedom around the world today.
