Pfc. Charles Barnes, from Saint Louis, Mo., secures a stairwell in a home in Tall Afar, Iraq, during operations in the city in the early morning hours of Aug. 1, 2004. Three battalions from the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) and three Iraqi National Guard battalions conducted operations in the area to seize weapons and detain anti-Iraqi forces. Barnes is a member of Company B, 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment.
