Jay Wilson, a retired lieutenant colonel with the Wisconsin Army National Guard, was presented with a service dog named Frosty July 24 at American Family Field™ in Milwaukee. Brandon Woodruff, a pitcher with the Milwaukee Brewers™ major league baseball club, along with his wife and daughter, were on hand for the presentation as an ambassador for Fairway Independent Mortgage Company, whose nonprofit arm American Warrior Initiative sponsored Frosty. Custom Canines Service Dog Academy of Madison, Wis., is training Frosty to meet Wilson’s needs. Wilson was medically retired in May 2023 after 28 years of military service and multiple combat deployments. He works as an engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs. Also pictured are Nicole Meadowcroft, executive director of Custom Canines Service Dog Academy of Madison, Wis., and Louise Thaxton, director and co-founder of the American Warrior Initiative. Wilson will have physical custody of Frosty once several weeks of training are completed. Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs photo by Vaughn R. Larson
