Jay Wilson, a retired lieutenant colonel with the Wisconsin Army National Guard, receives a service dog named Frosty July 24 at American Family Field™ in Milwaukee. Also pictured is Louise Thaxton, director and co-founder of the American Warrior Initiative — a nonprofit arm of Fairway Independent Mortgage Company dedicated to assisting military veterans — which sponsored Wilson’s service dog. Custom Canines Service Dog Academy of Madison, Wis., is training Frosty to meet Wilson’s needs. Wilson was medically retired in May 2023 after 28 years of military service and multiple combat deployments. He works as an engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs.
