ARABIAN GULF (Sept. 13, 2017) U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Michael Riley, a pilot assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 146, left, meets with Mohamed Najem, an employee at Bahrain International Airport's Rescue and Firefighting Services, middle, during a visit aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in the Arabian Gulf Sep. 13. Najem was Riley's first responder during an emergency landing of his U.S. Navy aircraft at the Bahrain International Airport Aug. 12. The visit served as a thank you to the workers that served as first responders to the recent emergency landing. Nimitz is deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While in this region, the ship and strike group are conducting maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, preserve freedom of navigation, and maintain the free flow of commerce.
