U.S. Army 1st Lt. Caleb M. Mitchell performs a functions check on an M2 machine gun during the weapons portion lane of the weeklong E3B assessment held Sept. 18, 2024 at Fort Bliss, Texas. The Expert Infantryman, Expert Soldier, and Expert Field Medical Badge consists of the patrol lane, the weapons lane and the medical lane. Each lane has 10 tasks associated with them and E3B candidates must undergo each lane successfully by completing the required tasks. The purpose of the E3B was to create experts at all levels, across all organizations, increasing the readiness and lethality of teams, squads, and platoons throughout the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss units.
