BREMERTON, Wash. (Aug. 16, 2016) Chief Aviation Electronics Technician (Select) Adam Ericsson and stationed with Electronic Attack Squadron One Two Nine (VAQ-129) Vikings, clean head stones with fellow Pacific Northwest chief petty officer selects during a community relations event at Ivy Green Cemetery. The academy entails living aboard the Vietnam-era destroyer while participating in community relation projects, ship preservation, leadership training, and a naval heritage capstone project. The Turner Joy is one of four naval memorial in the U.S. to host legacy academies, the other three being the Iowa-class battleship USS Missouri (BB 63), USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV 41) and USS Constitution, a wooden hulled, three-masted heavy frigate and oldest commissioned warship in the world.
