160816-N-WA993-205 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Aug. 16, 2016) Lt. Cmdr. Zeverick Butts, the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) senior deck inspector, checks the manual inflator on an abandon ship life preserver worn by Boatswain’s Mate Seaman (SW) Cordarrius Sistrunk, from Birmingham, Alabama, in the hangar bay of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). “The abandon ship life preserver is the one piece of gear you want operational in case of an abandon ship,” said Butts. “This simple maintenance is vitally important, because it saves lives.” Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
