160923-N-XM324-065PHILIPPINE SEA (Aug. 23, 2016) The guided-missile destroyer USS Barry (DDG 52) and the guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) get into formation with ships from Carrier Strike Group 5 and Expeditionary Strike Group 7 to participate in a photo exercise to signify the completion of Valiant Shield 2016. Valiant Shield 2016 is a biennial, U.S.-only, field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. The ships are participating in Valiant Shield in an effort to increase naval integration and joint capabilities in the event of conflict, contingency, or disaster relief.
