Commander Heath Howell, Commanding Officer, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Two Six (HSC-26) presents Lt. Col. Eugene Thorn of the West Virginia Civil Air Patrol with a letter of appreciation from HSC-26 which was accompanied by a photo signed by all the HSC-26 crew members who survived. Thorn was part of the successful search and rescue of a downed Navy MH-60 helicopter on Feb. 18. All 17 crew members comprised of eleven Navy, four National Guard, and two Marines survived that night after an overwhelming rescue response from multiple West Virginia organizations. The appreciation ceremony was held March 10th allowing Navy leadership and four of the original crew members to thank the efforts of so many that night.
