    U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Gerald Crawford, above, from Jacksonville, Fla., oversees Royal Australian Air Force Flight Lt. Phillip Laverty, air battle manager and executive officer, surveillance and control training unit, assigned to HMAS Darwin, as he observes and performs aircraft check-in procedures in the combat information center aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens during Talisman Sabre 2011. USS Cowpens is forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, and is underway in the U.S. Navy 7th Fleet area of operations. TS11 is an exercise designed to train U.S. and Australian forces to plan and conduct Combined Task Force operations to improve combat readiness and interoperability on a variety of missions, from conventional conflict to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance efforts.
