U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Gerald Crawford, right, from Jacksonville, Fla., talks with Royal Australian Navy Lt. Liam Walters, fighter controller on HMAS Darwin, left, and Royal Australian Navy Lt. Bernard Dobson, air intercept controller on HMAS Sydney, in the combat information center aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens during Talisman Sabre 2011. Walters and Dobson visited USS Cowpens to observe and perform aircraft check-in procedures. USS Cowpens is forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, and is underway in the U.S. Navy 7th Fleet area of operations. TS11 is an exercise designed to train U.S. and Australian forces to plan and conduct Combined Task Force operations to improve combat readiness and interoperability on a variety of missions, from conventional conflict to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance efforts.
