Amphibious assault vehicles depart the well deck of the forward-deployed amphibious dock landing ship USS Germantown during well deck operations. Germantown, commanded by Cmdr. A.D. Hull, is currently underway with the embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit for Talisman Sabre 2011, a bilateral command post and field training exercise designed to maintain a high level of interoperability between U.S. and Australian forces. TS11 is a biennial combined training activity designed to train Australian and U.S. forces in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations to improve Australian Defense Force/U.S. combat readiness and interoperability. It reflects the closeness of the alliance and the strength and flexibility of the ongoing military-military relationship.
