Ensign Charles Gatewood, of Council Grove, Kan., directs an amphibious assault vehicle in the well deck of the forward-deployed dock landing ship USS Germantown. The AAVs and landing craft air cushions were launched to give the drivers familiarity with the vehicle as they prepare for Talisman Sabre 2011. USS Germantown, commanded by Cmdr. A. D. Hull, is currently underway with the embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit for TS11, a bilateral command post and field training exercise designed to maintain a high level of interoperability between U.S. and Australian forces.
