JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2019) – Lt. Cmdr. Alesha Egts (right), chief nursing informatics officer at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, works alongside Karen Elgin, a nurse practitioner in Family Medicine. Egts works as a liaison between the clinical and information technology teams at the hospital, on new technologies to optimize care delivery. This includes Navy Care, an app that enables patients to have a live, virtual visit with their provider on a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Egts, a native of Lagro, Indiana, says “Navy Care saves time and travel for patients, because you don’t need to take time away from work or family to get care. It also furthers the reach of providers, who can care for patients in any geographic area.” (U.S. Navy photo by Jacob Sippel, Naval Hospital Jacksonville/Released).
