JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2019) – Force Master Chief Hosea Smith, Navy Medicine’s force master chief and director of the hospital corps, speaks to sailors participating in the hospital corpsman trauma training program at Naval Hospital Jacksonville on Feb. 15. Sixteen corpsmen from across the Navy receive two weeks of training at NH Jacksonville (including various simulation labs and a Tactical Combat Casualty Care course). This is followed by five weeks at University of Florida Health Jacksonville (a Level 1 trauma center). The corpsmen, who already served one tour at a military treatment facility, are then assigned to operational units across the globe. The clinical rotations provide enhanced real-world trauma experience for Navy hospital corpsmen, who provide life-saving care to sailors and Marines in the field. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Jacksonville (co-located with NH Jacksonville) delivers a ready medical force, in support of Department of Defense missions around the globe.
