JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 22, 2019) – Culinary Specialist 2nd Class Olga Guardado prepares fruit for patients and staff at Naval Hospital Jacksonville. Guardado, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, recently returned from an 11-week deployment aboard USNS Comfort (T-AH-20), as part of U.S. Southern Command’s Enduring Promise initiative. NH Jacksonville’s sailors were part of an embarked medical team, which worked with health and government partners in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and Honduras. The embarked medical team treated over 26,000 patients and conducted about 600 surgeries aboard the ship and at land-based sites. “The deployment was a learning experience for me. I cooked for events and receptions with government partners. I also assisted the medical staff by translating and helping with the patient processes.” (U.S. Navy photo by Jacob Sippel, Naval Hospital Jacksonville/Released).
