Cmdr. David Bernal, Peruvian Naval Command and Liaison Naval Officer for High Speed Vessel (HSV-2) Swift and HSV-Southern Partnership Station 2012, and Chief Olivia Sturgeon, assigned to the Maritime Civil Affairs Team embarked on Swift, joke around with Peruvian combat engineers on their lunch break at an elementary school in Zona De Acapulco. Bernal and Sturgeon were visiting the elementary school in support of the U.S Navy Seabees, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB 23). NMCB 23 aboard Swift is working with Peruvian combat engineers from Base Naval De Callao and Brigada Infanteria De Marina De Ancon during HSV-SPS 12. The Seabees and engineers will spend three weeks refurbishing schools in the area. HSV-SPS is an annual deployment of U.S. Navy ships and assets to the U.S. Southern Commands area of responsibility in the Caribbean, Central and South America.
