U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Garival Perez, assigned to Marine Detachment, embarked aboard High Speed Vessel (HSV-2) Swift, receives a cake in front of a crowd and Peruvian news teams, during HSV-Southern Partnership Station 2012 (HSV-SPS 12), and celebration of his birthday, on February 1, 2012, outside an elementary school being built in Zona De Acapulco. Perez is working with U.S. Navy Seabees, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB 23), embarked on Swift, as a translator. NMCB 23 is working with Peruvian combat engineers from Base Naval De Callao and Brigada Infanteria De Marina De Ancon during HSV-SPS 12. The Seabees and engineers will spend three weeks refurbishing schools in the area. HSV-SPS is an annual deployment of U.S. Navy ships and assets to the U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility in the Caribbean, Central and South America.
