U.S. Army Sgt. Samuel T. Elliott, a combat medic with 1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery Regiment, poses for a portrait at the start of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s Best Warrior Competition at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, April 2, 2025.
"I am looking forward to the shooting competition, because I have not used the Sig Sauer before," he said. "I joined the Pennsylvania National Guard out of patriotism and a desire for adventure and meeting great people, the Guard is also paying for my nursing school tuition."
Competitors are evaluated on their individual ability to adapt and overcome challenging scenarios and battle-focused events, which tests their technical and tactical abilities under stress and extreme fatigue.
