U.S. Army Sgt. Jared M. Browning, an infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, poses for a portrait at the start of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s Best Warrior Competition at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, April 2, 2025.
"I am looking forward to the obstacle course the most. It's like a gauntlet that will best test my fitness," he said. "I joined the Pennsylvania National Guard for the steady pay for my children."
Competitors are evaluated on their individual ability to adapt and overcome challenging scenarios and battle-focused events, which tests their technical and tactical abilities under stress and extreme fatigue.
