U.S. Army Spc. Matthew A. Stone, a cannon crewmember with 1st Battalion, 107th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, poses for a portrait at the start of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s Best Warrior Competition at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, April 2, 2025.
"I am looking forward to the land navigation and medical lanes for the fun of hiking around and the challenge of the medical lanes," he said. "I joined the Pennsylvania National Guard to serve my country and state and to be challenged and be a better version of myself."
Competitors are evaluated on their individual ability to adapt and overcome challenging scenarios and battle-focused events, which tests their technical and tactical abilities under stress and extreme fatigue.
