Quartermaster 1st Class David M. Harrison, from Orlando, Fla., assigned to the forward-deployed Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Barry (DDG 52), ties the ship’s international call sign signal flags as the ship departs Sasebo Harbor, Japan. Harrison enlisted in the Navy in March 2003 as an engineman serving nine years stationed out of Norfolk and nearly four years out of Yokosuka, Japan. Apart from schooling and TAD assignments, Harrison has been stationed at sea duty for the entirety of his Navy career, most recently as a crewmember aboard Barry during its forward-deployed shift to Japan replacing USS Lassen (DDG 82). Harrison, along with his wife Tomomi, is headed to his first shore assignment in Pearl Harbor where he will serve as an instructor. Barry is on patrol in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific. (U.S. Navy photo story by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Kevin V.
