160801-N-WA993-153 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Aug. 1, 2016) Electronics Technician 2nd Class (SW/AW) Thomas Riplow, from Puyallup, Washington, hands a socket wrench kit to Electronics Technician 2nd Class (SW) Thomas Casperen, from Oakland, California, who is inside the Whiskey 9 antenna to make repairs aboard the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). According to Casperen, the antenna is used to connect with satellites to provide Internet and handle the traffic of secret information. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
