Marines assigned to Force Reconnaissance Platoon, Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, undergo a gear inspection prior to a high altitude low opening jump as part of Valiant Shield 16, on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam,on Sept. 17, 2016. The Force Reconnaissance Marines conducted the HALO jump to insert and conduct reconnaissance the area in preparation for follow on operations in the exercise. A HALO jump involves the parachutist jumping from a high altitude and opening their parachute at a low altitude.
