Recruits of Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, hike under the iconic “We Make Marines” sign during the final steps of the Crucible Sept. 10, 2016, on Parris Island, S.C. The Crucible is the final test a recruit must pass before earning the title Marine and the coveted Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 16, 2016. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
