Students involved in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps stand at attention after a 5K race at Taga beach on the island of Tinian, Sept. 17, 2016. Marines and Sailors participating in Exercise Valiant Shield 16 hosted the race, allowing them to get to know Tinian locals. VS16 is a biennial, U.S.-only, field training exercise with a focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land, and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas.
