U.S. Marines and Sailors from 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11 take off from the start line during a 5K race at Taga Beach on the island of Tinian, Sept. 17, 2016 during Exercise Valiant Shield 16. Along with the service members, Tinian locals also participated in the race. VS16 is a biennial, U.S.-only, field training exercise with a focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land, and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas.
